Intel’s Next Generation Atom Platform

Just before the year ends, Intel has released its next generation Atom platform for netbooks and nettops that consists of the new Intel Atom N450 processor and the new lower power consuming NM10 Express chipset for netooks.

Two new Atom processors for nettops and small desktop PCs are also released. The single core Intel Atom D410 and the dual core Intel Atom D510 that are also paired with the Intel NM10 chipset are the two other releases.

The Intel Atom N450 runs at 1.66GHz and is designed to replace Intel’s N280 netbook processor and it is competent of delivering HD video in 720p with the built-in graphics chip.

The Intel Atom D410 and D510 are both 1.66GHz processors and are designed to be used in entry level desktop PCs or nettops and the D410 is a single-core Atom processor with 512KB of L2 cache and a 12-watt total kit TDP including the chipset, while the D510 is a dual core Atom processor with 1MB L2 cache and a 15watt total kit TDP including the chipset.

Intel is yet to announce the price and availability of their new Atom Platform in January.
