Dell has unveiled what they call the most powerful gaming laptop in the whole wide world.
The Alienware M11x offers an exceptional combination of attributes in a notebook – small size, light weight and powerful graphics performance. Most of the time, to get good graphics performance in a gaming notebook you have to go for a 17 inch machine that has heavy internal cooling systems.
The Nvidia GeForce GT 335M found in the M11x is not a high end, desktop-grade graphics chip, but it is in the upper end of what would be considered ‘mid-range’ and Dell says it can get a score of over 6,100 in the gaming-oriented 3DMark 06 benchmark.
The M11x costs $1599 and has decent specifications of a 500GB 7200RPM hard drive, 4GB RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium and a red-backlit “AlienFX” keyboard (pictured below), 1.3MP webcam and 11.6″ LED-backlit LCD display with a 1366×768 resolution – very good for the panel size. There’s also inbuilt 5.1 sound.

So when did 6100 in 3dMark06 become the most powerful gaming laptop in the world? Has Alienware gone back in time a couple years or something? Maybe the most powerful SMALL laptop, but the M17x kills this thing in performance, as does the Asus W90 series (14000+ in 3dMark06).
