Are you thinking to switch your company PCs from XP to Windows 7? You might just be in trouble.

An introduction assessment of early adopters of Windows 7 by Forrester Research draws some fairly painful conclusions for any companies considering making a generation-shifting switch from XP to 7.

“Microsoft has clearly done a better job preparing the hardware and software ecosystem for Windows 7 than it did for Windows Vista, but significant work still remains for IT managers responsible for application inventorying, testing, remediation, and packaging,” Forrester analyst Benjamin Gray wrote in a report released last week. “While it’s still too early for benchmark testing results, based on Forrester’s discussions with early…

The Microsoft’s best buy-exclusive Arc Keyboard will not be on display in stores for another couple of weeks (February 21 to be exact).

The first thing you will notice when get a glimpse of the keyboard in person is that it is smaller than what the press photos represents – basically, the same size as the average 15-inch laptop keyboard with a glossy bezel just huge enough to let you pick it up without pressing any key.

It is also undeniably attention-grabbing, with an “arc” that actually more closely resembles Apple’s Magic Mouse than Microsoft’s own Arc mouse.

Of course, most people will still prefer function over the looks when it comes to…

Microsoft has revealed a liability in Internet Explorer that can allow an invader to disclose local files on the system as HTML.

Technically, all the versions of IE are affected, however, as a practical matter only Windows XP and Windows 2000 are vulnerable due to the Protected Mode in IE7 and IE8 on Windows Vista and Windows 7 prevent the exploit. If a user were to disable protected mode they would also be vulnerable.

The exploit relies on the file: protocol and either scripting of some unnamed ActiveX control. Protected mode most likely stops the exploit because it runs the browser in a user context which has no access to the files…

Microsoft had a pretty good result with its second quarter results especially after two previous quarters of somewhat subjugated reports.

Microsoft’s posting a record of $19.02 billion in revenue, a 14 percent increase year-over-year. The net income or profit is $6.66 billion. Buoyed by all that is $1.71 billion in deferred revenue for Windows 7 pre-sales – that in laymen’s terms means money the company made before the fiscal quarter began but could not then claim it because the product (Windows 7) hadn’t yet been delivered to the consumer. Speaking of the platform, Microsoft is claiming to now have “the fastest selling operating system in history” with 60 million licenses sold.
