Acer’s passionate embrace of Intel’s latest Core i3, i5 and i7 “Calpella” notebook processors for their upcoming TimelineX range has apparently thrown the chipmaker’s production lines into a fear, with DigiTime’s manufacturing sources weighing up that the CPUs are now in rather limited in supply.

There has been no specific release on the amount of delay involved but it was stated that second-tier and smaller notebook firms will need to “wait much longer” before they can expect an access to the Calpella Processors.

Piece of Acer’s eagerness was their disappointment with performance from Intel’s CULV (consumer ultra-low voltage) CPUs, which enabled reasonable battery longevity but at the expense of performance.

Though, it also…

The Origin PC is the latest boutique vendor, though as former Alienware employees, its founders have plenty of experience with high-end desktops.

Origin offers four desktop case options such as a towering matte-black beast of a chassis that makes a statement simply by its large dimensions (24 inches high, 9 inches wide and 24 inches deep). The bottom of the case is elevated on four rubber feet to add another air-flow channel. The system also comes with a removable, easy-to-clean filter screen mounted across each underside fan intake.

The specifications of Origin Genesis are Intel Core i7 920 / 4 GHz processor; 6 GB / 16 GB (max) installed RAM; DDR3 SDRAM…

Intel released its newest processor, the Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition, which promises to be the new king of the CPU hill. The Core i7-980X Extreme Edition (codenamed “Gulftown”) is Intel’s first six-core processor for consumers, more particularly for the gamers and well-heeled multimedia professionals.

The Core i7-980X substitutes the Core i7-975 as the top-of-the-line Intel processor. It costs approximately $999 per chip that is the same price as the i7-975. The Core i7-980X is truly a “drop-in” replacement, since it shares the same LGA-1366 socket as the i7-975 (and i7-920, i7-960, etc.).

The Core i7-980X has six cores and comes with Intel’s Hyper-threading technology. This means it can work on twelve…

Intel has also launched the Atom N455 and Atom N475.  The two variant chips are obviously based on the 1.66GHz N450 and 1.83GHz N470 processors, although apparently it has added in support for DDR3 memory.

Intel is yet to even update their Atom site with the N470 so there is unsurprisingly no sign of the N455 or N475.  It is possible that the company did not intend to make the chips public at present; it is common for Intel to work with ASUS, Acer, MSI and other manufacturers ahead of launch and the netbook firms to merely say “Atom powered” until the new chip gets official.

According to the earlier rumors, the…

The Atom processor is possibly one of the weakest types of processors on the market. When we think about Atom notebook reviews, the first thing that should come to mind is definitely netbooks.

Netbooks are the most common mini notebooks that use Atom processor since the unit is so small, it must have weak components inside as better and more powerful components generate a lot of heat that is unacceptable in the cramped space of a netbook’s unit.

One of these netbooks that uses Atom as the processor is the Acer Aspire One netbook. This 8.9 inch laptop is based on a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 processor and 1 GB of…

Pentium is the brand that just will never die, Intel reminds individuals.

Eighteen years ago, the marketing agency Lexicon Branding created a unique product name after a US legal ruling that number-based brands (such as the chip’s intended i586 moniker) could not be trademarked, the Pentium turned out to be one of Intel’s most successful processor lines, and perhaps also its best-known.

Pentium long ago ceased to be the alpha male of microprocessors, being first replaced by the Core and Core 2 chips and now the latest Core i3, i5 and i7 series.

But it still lives on as a low-end “value” line, alongside the Celeron. For example, Intel’s ultra-low voltage lineup for…
