Acer’s passionate embrace of Intel’s latest Core i3, i5 and i7 “Calpella” notebook processors for their upcoming TimelineX range has apparently thrown the chipmaker’s production lines into a fear, with DigiTime’s manufacturing sources weighing up that the CPUs are now in rather limited in supply.

There has been no specific release on the amount of delay involved but it was stated that second-tier and smaller notebook firms will need to “wait much longer” before they can expect an access to the Calpella Processors.

Piece of Acer’s eagerness was their disappointment with performance from Intel’s CULV (consumer ultra-low voltage) CPUs, which enabled reasonable battery longevity but at the expense of performance.

Though, it also…

3D is not really for everyone, but if you have got your heart set on jumping that bandwagon nice and early, here is a review for you.

The people over at Tom’s Guide have sat down with 23-inch 3D displays from Acer (GD235HZ) and Alienware (OptX AW2310) and sought to figure which one offers the better gaming experience. After some sobering notes about the need for a high end system to run 3D games – NVIDIA’s 3D Vision solution renders each scene twice, meaning you will need as much power to drive one 3D screen as you would a dual-monitor setup – they probe right into some benchmarking and real world…

The Acer executives recently stated that US PC manufacturers will be dead within 20 years and that they want to “change the Microsoft-Intel environment” with Chrome OS, but now they are standing firm while everyone else races to do a tablet.

At least that is the word from Acer Taiwan president Scott Lin, who told Digitimes that while Acer can certainly produce a tablet device, it does not fit into the company’s business model. What is more, he qualms that other companies can simply copy Apple’s hardware and succeed and instead, Acer’s going to focus on ultra-thin laptops – a category Acer expects to account for 20-30 percent of its business…

As always, Acer has maintained a sturdy lead in the race to sell as many netbooks as possible in the past year. That is largely because the Taiwanese manufacturer figured out early that basic netbooks at lower prices would fly off shelves.

The new Aspire One 532h does not muddle with that formula. The 10.1-inch netbook packs a new Intel Atom N450 processor, 1 GB of RAM, Windows 7 Starter, 160 GB hard drive and six-cell battery – all for $299.

The design of 532h is almost the same as that of the previous Aspire One 751h. The only thing that is distinctive is the multicolored, metallic-like blue and black lid that…
