Acer has revealed a new line of notebooks – the Acer Aspire Ethos series – that promises slick design alongside with multimedia performance.

Two models have been presented to the public - t he Acer Aspire Ethos 8943G and Aspire Ethos 5943G – with a preference of Intel Core i5 or i7 processors, 18-inch 1920 x 1080 and 15.6-inch 1366 x 768 displays respectively, and ATI Mobility Radeon HD5000 graphics.

The Acer Aspire 8940G runs on a 1.6 GHz Intel Core i7-720QM and 4 GB of DDR3 RAM. The total storage capacity of the hard drive supports up to 500 GB and the graphics card is the NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250M with 1 GB of DDR3 video memory.

In December 2009, there has been a rumor that Acer had ordered the new NVIDIA Ion 2 chips for some of its computers. Acer has now unveiled its first netbook to actually sport the Ion 2 graphics chip and the netbook is called the Aspire One 532G. The Acer executives recently stated that US PC manufacturers will be dead within 20 years and that they want to “change the Microsoft-Intel environment” with Chrome OS, but now they are standing firm while everyone else races to do a tablet.

At least that is the word from Acer Taiwan president Scott Lin, who told Digitimes that while Acer can certainly produce a tablet device, it does not fit into the company’s business model. The new Ferrari One from Acer follows this trend, taking a basic 11-inch netbook shell and decking it out in official Ferrari red, with the automaker’s iconic horse logo.
